"Cité de la Bière" in Bailleul

"Cité de la Bière" in Bailleul

A future flagship venue in Flanders

In Bailleul, the future Cité de la bière will be built on the former Nordlys brownfield site. This cultural and tourist project will celebrate the history of brewing, hops and the traditional skills that are the hallmark of Flanders.

The Cité de la bière in Bailleul is an ambitious project led by Cœur de Flandre agglo and the Hauts-de-France Region. Situated on the site of the former Nordlys brownfield site, close to the station and the town centre, it is set to become an unmissable destination for beer enthusiasts, curious visitors and those exploring the Monts de Flandre.

What is the Cité de la bière in Bailleul ?

The future Cité de la bière will showcase Flanders’ brewing heritage: hop cultivation, the stages of beer production, the work of brewers, and the diversity of regional beers. Designed to be a vibrant and accessible space, it will bring together discovery, education, and a sense of community.

The project features an immersive experience designed to engage the senses, organized around five themed areas. Visitors will be able to explore the history of beer and the brewing industry, participate in workshops, and enjoy tasting sessions.

Where will the future Beer City be located ?

The Cité de la bière will be located in Bailleul, on the former Nordlys brownfield site. The redevelopment project aims to preserve and transform this historically significant site into a space open to the city, featuring a large plaza, green spaces, and restored buildings.

Its location, just a short walk from the Bailleul train station and downtown, makes it an easy stop to include on a getaway to the Monts de Flandre.

What will we be able to do there ?

Explore an immersive experience

The tour is expected to feature fun, interactive activities that help visitors understand how beer is made, learn about its history, and gain a better understanding of the role of the brewing tradition in Flemish identity.

Take part in workshops and tastings

Brewery workshops and tastings are being offered to provide a more interactive experience, suitable for both beer enthusiasts and visitors who are just discovering beer culture.

Enjoy a dining area

The project includes exhibition and interactive spaces, venues for celebrations, and a dining area. It is expected to enhance the visitor experience by highlighting local products and Flemish hospitality.

When will the Cité de la bière in Bailleul open ?

The project is moving forward in phases. The Nordlys brownfield site has been transferred to Cœur de Flandre Agglo to begin its redevelopment. At this stage, construction is scheduled to begin in late 2026 and is expected to take two years.
